Children use what they know about sentence and story structure to reconstruct a story. |
Select a text with highly predictable structures. May be used with fiction and non-fiction such as science. |
(Watson and Crowley 1988)
After selecting the story physically cut or separate into sections long enough to contain at least one main idea. |
Each section of the text is distributed to a small group of students (5 to 8). |
A student is selected in each group to read the text aloud to the group. |
The teacher then invites the group that thinks it has the beginning of the story to come forward. |
The group must state why it has the requested part of the story. |
The process is continued until all the segments of the story have been placed in order. |
