Objectives:

After reading My Brother Martin, students will create a mural with image and text that shows the life stories that influenced both MLK and themselves. They will then write about the similarities and differences. |

Instructional Procedures:
|
|
The teacher will read and discuss My Brother Martin with the students, paying particular attention to the stories Daddy King tells to his children. |
|
|
In small groups students will brainstorm about stories told to them by parents, other family members, and older members of their community. |
|
|
They will use these stories in murals that show both Martin’s and their own experiences. |
|
|
Finally they will write about the similarities and/or differences of their experiences. |
