Reading is more about
what is in your head than what your eyes see.
We have to use what we
know to predict what will be coming next.
Meaning is not in the
text but in the interaction and transaction of the reader and the text.
This back and forth between the reader’s prior knowledge and the text is
known as an interaction.
How many times we are distracted will also influence our grasp of what we
are reading.
For instance, if you
are about to call someone and you have just looked up the number and the
phone rings and you answer it. Chances are you will have to look up the
number again. However if you had looked at the number and said, “this is
one number different from my cousin’s number, you would not have to look it
up again.

Every time we go away from the print we loose a certain amount of
comprehension, which is why previewing is so necessary in reading.
