and Awards
The Bob Hardy
Scholarship:
This scholarship is a memorial to Bob Hardy, veteran broadcast journalist
at KMOX radio and a St. Louis regional civic leader. The scholarship,
established by the Hardy family, is available to SIUE sophomores/juniors
pursuing a degree in broadcast journalism. Majors in the program with
a 2.5 GPA or higher are eligible to apply for assistance with tuition
and fees for their junior and senior years. Applicants submit an original
essay on "Integrity in Broadcast Journalism." along with
an application, available from the Department of Mass Communications
in November or December. January is the customary deadline. The award
is decided by vote of the faculty.
Robert L.
Emig Scholarship:
Covers your tuition up to $2000 per semester for two semesters. You
must be a junior or senior Mass Communications major with at least a
3.0 overall GPA. To apply, submit a cover letter that includes your
career ambitions and your involvement in student and professional organizations.
Also submit a resume and samples of some of the best work you've done
in Mass Communications courses, student publications or in professional
Mass Communications. Although an expensive binder is not necessary,
you should use our senior portfolio instructions as a guide for how
to prepare and present these samples.
Elmer C.
Broz Award for Achievement in Journalism:
An annual award of $100 is presented at the Honors Day Ceremony to a
mass communications student for achievement in journalism. The awardee
is chosen by a committee, which includes representation from the faculty
of mass communications, the editorial staff of the Alton Telegraph,
and the Society of Professional Journalists.
John Rutherford
Ott Award in Mass Communications:
An annual award is presented at the Honors Day Ceremony to the mass
communications student with the highest GPA.
Kamil Winter
Achievement Award:
Established in honor of Kamil Winter, SIUE Mass Communications Department
Professor Emeritus, this award recognizes an outstanding student in
this department. The award is given at the Honors Day Ceremony to the
student who most exemplifies the qualities, which Kamil Winter professed
during his teaching career. |
