Thesis/Project Defense Final Examination for Master’s Thesis or Project Once the advisor and the graduate committee is satisfied with quality of the student’s thesis or project, the advisor schedules a final oral examination over the thesis or project and the coursework. A defense should be scheduled at least two weeks prior to the defense date requested, and at least three weeks prior to finals week of a given semester.
