Do you have students who are concerned about essay writing? Do you have students
who do not know how to begin a research assignment? Then send them to the
Writing Center’s workshop “Surviving Your Essay/Research Assignment.”
This workshop will show students how to brainstorm on a topic, develop an
outline, organize their thoughts into coherent paragraphs, and incorporate
research. Handouts will be provided.

Proofreading For Success
Tired of students turning in papers riddled with errors? Frustrated at the
lack of time students spend in the proofreading stage of the writing process?
Then send them to the Writing Center’s workshop “Proofreading
for Success.” Many students do not know how to proofread and, therefore,
often fail to complete this critical task. This workshop will show students
several ways to critically proofread their own work and give them pointers
to efficiently go through a draft while looking for errors. Handouts will
be provided.

Plagiarism – What it is and how to avoid it
Did you know that some students do not even know how to cite sources in a
paper? Are you tired of receiving “cut and paste” documents from
students who should know better? Then send them to the Writing Center’s
“Plagiarism – What it is and how to avoid it” workshop.
This discussion will show students how to avoid plagiarism and will stress
the need to attribute work to the original author. Summarizing and direct
quoting will be discussed, while handouts will be provided.

using APA citation style and provide several examples of how to cite a variety
of documents, both in text and on the reference page. Handouts will be provided.
