Miller Analogies Test (MAT)    
General Information
The MAT is a high-level mental ability test requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies.  It consists of 120 partial analogies that are completed in 60 minutes. Current Candidate Information Booklets can be picked up in Testing Services, 1404 Peck Hall or downloaded at
Harcourt Assessment, Inc.

Registration Information

  • Please Note: For many graduate programs in the School of Education, the Miller Analogies Test is NO LONGER REQUIRED. Please check with the director of the specific program in which you are interested about this requirement.
  • There is a fee of $83 to take the Miller Analogies Test. All participants interested in taking the Miller Analogies Test must register and pay online. During the registration process, you will be asked to enter your Social Security Number. Students who have not provided this number will not be allowed to test.
  • Testing is permitted up to three times within a one-year period; however, if you are retesting within a year, you MUST present a retest ticket.
  • Bring No. 2 pencils and photo identification to the testing site. (You will not be able to test without proper identification.)
  • The test schedule might vary. Check back to this site prior to coming to SIUE for testing. 
  • Arriving promptly at the testing site with the required materials is necessary for test administration. If you arrive after the start time, you will not be permitted to test. All tests will be administered in Lovejoy Library, Computer Lab 0033 (in the basement). 
  • There will be no refunds of registration or testing fees, no exceptions.

Scoring
Upon completion of the Miller Analogies Test, you will receive a preliminary score report; however, your official score report will be sent to you within 15-20 business days. If you have any questions regarding the scores required for your program, please consult the appropriate department. If you have questions about your score, please contact Harcourt Assessment at 1.800.622.3231. To request scores, you must submit a request in writing to:

The letter should specify the following:

  1. The place and approximate date you took the MAT;
  2. Your name as you gave it when you took the MAT and your current address;
  3. Your social security number;
  4. The complete address or addresses to which you want your score reported;
  5. The date of your request;
  6. Your daytime telephone number; and
  7. Your signature

With the letter, you must include a money order for the transcript fee of $15.00 per transcript.  The money order must be payable to The Psychological Corporation and display your name.  Within five business days of receiving your transcript request, The Psychological Corporation will send a transcript to your designated score recipient.  Transcripts are sent by first class mail.
