Frequently Asked Questions About Leasing

Why
lease rather than purchase?
-
- The total lease costs will be less than the purchase
price for a comparable workstation acquired outside this program.
- You are guaranteed high-quality computing service for
a fixed, predictable monthly expenditure which includes shipping, installation,
repair parts, and service. There are no hidden or extra costs.
- Leased machines are supported with an on-campus parts
supply and rapid service.
- Leased workstations will be replaced every 36 months
with new computers -- no more obsolescent, failure-prone computers that
won't run the latest software.

Who
can participate in the SIUE-Tangent lease program?
- Any SIUE unit. The unit's fiscal officer must initiate the
contract.

How
long is the lease?
- The lease is for 36 months.

What
happens at the end of the 36 months?
- At the end of the lease period, the workstation will be returned
to Tangent. If you choose to continue with the lease program, you will receive
a new workstation.

Is
the lease program mandatory?
- No.

What
types of workstation are available for lease?
- There are several types of workstations available for lease.

Why
is there no charge for Windows and the other Microsoft products?
- Information Technology Services has purchased a Microsoft
Campus Agreement that covers all SIUE owned or leased workstations.

Are
the Tangent computers Oracle-compliant?
- Yes.

How
can I initiate a lease?

- Complete a Lease
Agreement.
- Send the the Agreement by campus mail to OIT at Box 1068
or by fax at 618-650-3599.
- A customer service representative will contact you by
telephone to verify your request.

When
will I receive the leased workstations?
- Workstations will be installed in your office approximately
30 days after receipt of your Lease Agreement.

How
do I make lease payments?
- The lease payments will automatically be transferred from
your unit's account each month.

Who
will service the leased workstations?
- Tangent technicians or Tangent-certified SIUE technicians
will provide service. Tangent stores spare parts on campus. Hardware failures
will be repaired with priority service. Call ITS Customer Support at 618-650-5500
for assistance.

Can
I add memory or a disk drive to my leased computer?
- Only Tangent-certified technicians
may open the computer case. Please call ITS Customer Support at 618-650-5500
for assistance with purchasing and installing additional equipment.
