German Scholarships

· Gladys Oney Griffen Scholarship

This award was donated to the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature by Gladys Oney Griffen, the mother of retired Professor of German, Dr. Toby Griffen. The award is $1,000 payable over two semesters.

Spanish Scholarships

· Helen D. Goode Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Helen Goode came to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in September of 1962 and taught Spanish courses in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature for over 17 years. Dr. Goode earned the Bachelor and Master degrees in music and the Ph.D. degree in Spanish at the University of Kansas. Before her death in May 1995, Dr. Goode made a bequest to fund a scholarship at SIUE for students interested in teaching Spanish. The scholarship is in the amount of $1,500.00 for the academic year.
