Proficiency Exam

The Proficiency Exam will allow you to receive GPA credit for foreign language clases. This exam is given on a computer and will take you approximately 20 - 40 minutes to complete, however there is no time limit. These language exams are not based on any particular textbook; it would be wise, therefore, to review your grammar and vocabulary.

You do not need to make an appointment to take the Proficiency Exam.

The grade you will recieve will either be an A or a B with 4 credit hours earned for the successful completion of each class you place out of.

IMPORTANT: You may only take the proficiency exam one time.

Good Luck!

NOTE:
If you are currently enrolled in a course in which you gain proficiency credit, you must officially drop this course! Not doing so may result in an unauthorized withdrawl on your transcript.
The proficiency exam is given in the FLTC (Foreign Language Training Center) located on the second floot of Peck Hall. Just come through the glass doors marked "2310" and lab attendant will be happy to assist you. It is a computerized exam, multiple choice, fill in the blank, etc. There is no time limit on the exam. The only stipulation is that you may only take it ONE time.

Things to keep in mind:

  • You may take the exam only ONE time
  • There is no cost for taking the exam.
  • There is no time limit on the exam.
  • Depending upon how you score, you can earn up to 16 credit hours (4 per semester).
  • Testing out of 101 and 102 = Tuition free and you do not take the course.
  • Testing out of 201 and 202 = You pay the tuition but you do not have to take the course.
  • The highest class you can place into is 301.
