Proficiency Exam

1) The exam is computerized and will take you approximately 35-40 minutes to complete, but there is no time limit. These language exams are not based on any particular textbook; it would be wise, therefore, to review your grammar.

2) You may make an appointment to take the proficiency and/or you may take it at any time the Foreign Languages Training Center (FLTC) is open. However, you do need to make sure you arrive at least an hour before closing. During fall and spring semesters, the FLTC hours are Monday - Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Summer hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Just to make sure you are not disappointed should you be traveling a distance, it would be advisable to make an appointment. The FLTC phone number is 618-650-2439 and the Foreign Languages office number is 618-650-3510 or 650-3512.

3) The exam will allow a student to pass two complete years of a college language. The grade will either be an A or a B with 4 credit hours earned for the successful completion of each semester.

4) You may take the proficiency exam only one time.
