All Shook Up…
On Friday, April 18, 2008, the Midwest area experienced a 5.2 magnitude earthquake that rattled skyscrapers in Chicago’s Loop and homes as far away as Cincinnati. The quake occurred just before 4:37 a.m. and was centered six miles from West Salem, IL. Naturally, all Facilities Management crafts and others were placed “on alert” to inspect buildings for possible damage and will continue to assess building conditions through routine inspections. Any members of the University community who notice damage are asked to call Customer Service at extension 3711.
FM Walk-Throughs Resume
The Facilities Management Walk-Through Program, begun in 2006, provided a fountain of information about each building, and on Wednesday afternoon, April 23, 2008, the program resumes with a walk-through of Peck Hall. After a short meeting at 1:15 p.m., the FM Director, Assistant Directors, and Customer Service Representative will walk through the building for a complete inspection and understanding of problems the building presents. A reminder will be sent and will include the room number where the meeting will be held. FM hopes building occupants will plan to attend the meeting and walk-through and share their insights.
I Can See Clearly Now…
Annual window cleaning began on April 14th and will be complete in approximately two weeks.
At long last, spring…
Although it seemed winter would never leave the area, spring has finally arrived and brought with it the beautiful blooms on the Bradford Pear trees at the south entrance. All of campus is “greening up.” When the prairie drop seed and wildflowers planted in the fall start to bloom, all of the entrances should really be something to see!
Building Coordinator Meeting
The spring Building Coordinator Meeting is scheduled for April 29, 2008, in the third floor conference room in Peck Hall. Building Coordinators are volunteers from each building who graciously give of their time to assist FM with building problems. They are the “front line” people who assist building occupants in communication with FM, disseminate information from FM when necessary, and attend two meetings a year in the spring and fall for discussions, updates, and fun. More information on the Building Coordinator program can be found at the FM website at www.siue.edu/FACILITIES. FM greatly appreciates their service!
Just a Reminder…
Facilities Management is breaking in a new work order system and the University community has been very patient and helpful; just a reminder that both the FAS and AIS account numbers should appear on Service Requisitions now. Beginning with FY09 (July 1, 2008) customers are asked to provide AIS account numbers only. The assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Trash / Recycling Schedule
Building occupants who were on campus over the summer are well aware of the changes in trash/recycling pick up. Office trash and recycling is now picked up every other week; one week trash, the other recycling. To learn the pickup schedule for a department, go to: http://www.siue.edu/FACILITIES/cleaning/schedule.htm Recycling weeks are: April 21; May 5 and 19, June 2, 16, and 30. The opposite weeks, of course, trash is picked up. Call the Building Services line at extension 2067 for further assistance.
