Rendleman Stairs Safe
As Facilities Management painters were repairing the east stairwell in Rendleman Hall, the ceiling started moving. Since the earthquake was over, and the aftershocks seemed to have slowed, the movement of the ceiling was a concern. To be safe, the stairway was closed until it could be determined that the support of the ceiling was still sound. (The ceilings in the top of the stairways in Rendleman and several of the other buildings on campus float inside the brick tower and are supported from the roof above them.) After structural evaluations were completed, and it was determined that the ceiling was safe, the stairway was re-opened. Sometime within the next couple of weeks, access to the third floor via this stairwell may be restricted as the painters complete patching and repainting.
Keyless Access Reminder
As a reminder, student keyless access is restricted to current enrollment and is granted for one semester. Access approval for students is required each semester. One week written notification to the Key Control office is required by the dean or department director when requesting holiday override building access (during break weeks between semesters). An email or signed memo from the dean or department director giving the names of these students is sufficient as long as these students were enrolled the previous semester and are being held over for the break period. The dean or department director and the department secretary will be notified by email when access has been granted. No changes need to be made for faculty or staff. Contact Key Control at 3200 or 3201 w/questions.
FM Walk-Throughs Resume
The Facilities Management Walk-Through Program, begun in 2006, provided a fountain of information about each building, and on Wednesday afternoon, April 23, 2008, the program resumed with a walk-through of Peck Hall. After a short meeting at 1:15 p.m., the FM Director, Assistant Directors, and Customer Service Representative walked through the building per requests from building occupants and various work orders were written for needed improvements. The assistance of the building occupants is invaluable in this program; FM is hopeful the other walk-throughs will be as successful.
Building Coordinator Meeting
The spring Building Coordinator Meeting was held April 29, 2008, in the third floor conference room in Peck Hall. Building Coordinators are the “front line” people who assist building occupants in communication with FM, disseminate information from FM when necessary, and attend two meetings a year in the spring and fall for discussions, updates, and fun. Updates on the many, many projects to take place on campus this summer were given by Bob Washburn. More information on the Building Coordinator program can be found at the FM website at www.siue.edu/FACILITIES. FM greatly appreciates their service!
Just a Reminder…
Facilities Management is breaking in a new work order system and the University community has been very patient and helpful; just a reminder that both the FAS and AIS account numbers should appear on Service Requisitions now. Beginning with FY09 (July 1, 2008) customers are asked to provide AIS account numbers only. The assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Trash / Recycling Schedule
Building occupants who were on campus over the summer are well aware of the changes in trash/recycling pick up. Office trash and recycling is now picked up every other week; one week trash, the other recycling. To learn the pickup schedule for a department, go to: http://www.siue.edu/FACILITIES/cleaning/schedule.htm Recycling weeks are: May 19, June 2, 16, and 30. The opposite weeks, of course, trash is picked up. Call the Building Services line at extension 2067 for further assistance.
