A REMINDER FROM THE DIRECTOR
Employees who drive in the course of their University duties have a
responsibility to report suspension or revocation of their driver’s
license to their supervisor/fiscal officer. By University Policy,
the supervisor/fiscal officer is to notify Human Resources and Transportation.
Employees with revoked or suspended licenses are NOT authorized to
drive University, Transportation, or vehicles leased or rented by
the University.
The most common
problem is with emissions testing. When the letter is received stating
that not having a vehicle tested will result in
revocation of the driver’s license, it is serious; the state
of Illinois will revoke the license. However, they will NOT send a
letter stating that the license has been revoked. Once the license
is revoked for emissions violation, just getting the car tested is
not enough; a visit to the friendly Secretary of State’s office
to pay a hefty fee is required to get the license back.

REST IN PEACE…
Flags flew at half-staff on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, on behalf
of Army Sgt. 1st Class Shawn C. Dostie, United States Army, 32, of
Granite City, Illinois, killed in the war in Iraq on December 30,
2005.

JOB SEARCH
Recently, our
18-year-old daughter started hunting for her first real job. She
spent an afternoon filling out application forms, leaving
them on the kitchen table to finish later. As I walked by, a section
of the application on top jumped out at me. Under “Previous Employment” she
wrote, “Baby Sitting.”
In answer to “Reason for Leaving,” she replied, “Parents
came home.”
