Submissions are now open for 2014 River Bluff Review!!

The River Bluff Review is SIUE’s student literary magazine. For over twenty years it has been published each spring to showcase student work.

What are the editors looking for?
We accept: poetry, prose (fiction, creative nonfiction, and non-academic essays), short plays; graphic narrative; photography, drawings, and photographic representations of art in other media (black and white only). Works must not have previously appeared in print.

How much can I send?
No more than four total unpublished pieces of art and/or written work should be submitted.

How long can the written submissions be?
For prose and drama, no individual piece should exceed 7,000 words; combined submission total should not exceed 20,000 words. For poetry and graphic narrative, combined submission total should not exceed 20 pages.

Who is eligible to submit?
All undergraduate and graduate students of SIUE are eligible to submit works (including those graduating in Fall 2013, but not currently enrolled).

How exactly do I submit?
The preferred method of submission is by email. Please send your work to riverbluffreview@gmail.com as attachments – one attachment per piece.  (One email may have multiple attachments.)

What kind of files should I send?
Please send text-only submissions in Word format. 
Graphic files should be sent as JPEGs (300 dpi).
If your work is in another format, please contact us before submitting.

What other information do you need?
In the body of your email, please include the following: Submitter's name, SIUE email address (to confirm student status), preferred email address (if different), phone number, as well as the title, word count (for prose fiction & nonfiction only), and appropriate category (i.e., fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, for literary works; medium for artistic works) for each piece submitted.

NOTE: The author’s/artist's name should not appear on any of the pieces submitted. Submissions are logged in by the RBR faculty adviser and reviewed by editors anonymously.

How will I know if you’ve received my submission?
The faculty adviser, Valerie Vogrin, will send you an email notification that your work has been received. If you do not receive this notification, you should assume that your work has NOT been received and resubmit.

When do the editors make their decisions?
Editorial decisions are made by early March.

What if I don’t want to or am unable to send my submission via email?
You may turn in hard copy submissions at the River Bluff Review box in the 3200 wing of Peck Hall right outside the English Department. Alternatively, you may mail it to:

Hard copy submissions should include a separate cover sheet.
Hard copies of artwork not used for the journal will be returned once the final editorial decisions have been made. Accepted artwork will be returned once the journal has gone to print.
