Formal Poetry
I don't like formal poems;
I'll be quite terse,
As a long-standing supporter
Of imagistic free verse.A writer's preoccupation
with rhyme and feet
May win linguistic accolades
But it can lose the conceit.When I am bound by quatrains,
Rhyme scheme, and such,
I write multitudes of clichés
That just don't express as much.In my opinion, the worst
poetic crime
Is that of the meter novice
Forcing a poem's end rhyme.
