Master of Science in Education: Secondary Education and English
The Department of English, in cooperation with the School of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction, offers an English teaching field as part of the Master of Science in Education degree (Secondary Education, grades 6-12). A jointly advised MSEd/English Ed program, ordinarily consisting of 15 hours in graduate-level English, will be designed, taking into account each student's background and interests.
Throughout the program — and before signing up for any courses in English — MSEd/English Ed students must consult with the English Education graduate advisor (Dr. Anderson).
Students must complete at least 42 semester hours in English (graduate and undergraduate work combined) in order to be eligible for the degree. Some programs will include more than 15 hours in English in order to satisfy this requirement. Students must achieve a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in English (including all undergrad and graduate English courses) and an overall average of 3.0 in the MSEd/English Ed program (3.0 GPA = B average). For further information, see the
Department of Curriculum and Instruction’s Secondary Education website
