Language and literacy acquisition, language teaching pedagogy, sociolinguistics, teacher development, and the schooling of language-minority children.
Oversees the program for students seeking state certification in ESL.
On the graduate level, teaches courses in ESL methods, assessment, and language and culture. On the undergraduate level, has taught introductory linguistics, the grammar of English, and first-year composition.
Has published articles and book chapters on family literacy development in multi-lingual environments, and is now working with local ESL and bilingual teachers to examine action research processes and their relationship to teacher development in ESL.
