Dr. Farley has served as a Fulbright scholar in Brazil (1985), a United States Information Agency lecturer in Japan (1991), a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies (1987-88), and a visiting professor of American literature at the University of Colorado, Boulder (1987).
She married John E. Farley, Professor of Sociology at SIUE, in 1997. Here is a 2005 photograph of the Farleys in Bavaria; John was participating in a conference on the challenges facing minority groups in Germany.
