TEACHING and LEARINGING GOALS STATEMENT
The general education component of SIUE’s degree programs requires that students take skills courses, two of which are ENG 101 and ENG 102. Usually taken sequentially, the two courses satisfy the university requirement for student completion of six hours of written expression.
The University community expects that in these courses students will learn how to write expository essays as one of the several means to their "intellectual development and an ability and desire to make contributions to society" (
"Policies and Procedures: General Education Program"). Your job is to teach students in English 101 and English 102 the critical thinking and writing processes necessary for executing successful expository essays. This manual offers resources for meeting university goals for its undergraduates.
