DOCUMENTING SOURCES
Your students will need to use a style sheet or guide in writing their research papers. Most English faculty use the Modern Language Association (MLA) style sheet, but you are not limited to that format. You can, where appropriate, teach American Psychological Association (APA) or Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), especially if you have students writing research papers in the language of the social sciences or in business. Teach what you know well or with what you are most comfortable. The textbooks that your students will be given in textbook rental have good models of style formats to which your students can refer. Guides for citing electronic resources are included in the textbooks. Another good resource for documentation guides is
Purdue’s Online Writing Lab (OWL).
