470-3 MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS.
Design and analysis of manufacturing systems including
automated flow lines, assembly systems, material handling systems. Group
technology, fundamentals of CAD/CAM/CAPP, numerical control, steady state
optimal control. Prerequisites: 370, 375 and upper-division standing in
industrial or manufacturing engineering or consent of instructor.

This course introduces different types of manufacturing systems,
their operations, and the analysis methods using various performance
measures. These are used for productivity improvement and economic
decision making for manufacturing systems The course is an engineering
topics course with significant engineering design content.

Course Outcomes
|
Students successfully completing this course will have the ability
to:
1. Understand different
types of manufacturing systems, including traditional, NC/Robots, and
CAD/CAM systems.
2. Conduct performance
analyses of different types of manufacturing systems with various
measures.
3. Estimate WIP cost and
economic impact of lean manufacturing on WIP cost.
4. Conduct performance
analyses for automated material storage and retrieval systems.
