Industrial Engineering - Design & Control of Quality Systems (3) (3,0) (IME 465)

Catalog Data:

465-3 DESIGN AND CONTROL OF QUALITY SYSTEMS.

(Same as STAT 488). Quality design by experimental design, determination of process capability, quality control using statistical control charts, acceptance sampling. Prerequisite: 365 or STAT 380 or consent of instructor.

1. Introduction (1 hour).
2. Control Charts for variables (5 hours).
3. Rational sub-grouping; analyzing and controlling variation (5 hours).
4. Control Charts for attributes (5 hours).
5. Process-Capability analysis (5 hours).
6. Special process control procedures (5 hours).
7. Specifications & tolerances (5 hours).
8. Acceptance sampling (5 hours).
9. Taguchi Methods (5 hours).
10. ISO 9000 (4 hours).

 

 

Professional Component:

This course introduces essential quality assurance tools and methods to industrial and manufacturing engineering students. The course emphasizes computer implementation of quality control techniques using the MiniTab software package in a term project. The course is an engineering topics course with significant engineering design content.
