Sigma Lambda Chi, the national honor society for leaders in construction, has as its fundamental purpose the recognition of outstanding students in the field of construction. Membership in the society is an honor conferred on students based on outstanding scholarship, leadership, and character, regardless of gender, race, color, or creed.
The Upsilon II Chapter at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville was revived in 1995 after a 2-year period of inactivity with Dr. S. Narayan Bodapati as faculty advisor. Four faculty members and three active members were initiated in the Fall of 1995. The chapter has initiated new members, including honorary members in each succeeding year. Currently, Professor Luke Snell and Dr. Narayan Bodapati server as the faculty advisers.

The Chapter has a strong commitment to community service, and annually participates in one or more activities demonstrating this commitment.
In 1998, the Upsilon II Chapter was presented the Excellence in Service Project in Major Field of Study for the construction of a wheelchair ramp at the home of a 10-year old AIDS patient, and leadership in the Christmas in April project, a program to assist the elderly and disabled with needed home repairs.
The Chapter now has an ongoing relationship with the local Christmas in April organization, and annually manages one or more projects in the Edwardsville area, including material takeoff, procurement, and scheduling in addition to labor.
Year 2006-07 Activities
New Members will be inducted in Novemeber 2006. A possible long-term service project with unity lutheran church on East St.Louis is being studied. The project would involve assisting the church in renovating neighborhood homes to create a more stable community.
Year 2005 Activities
November 14, 2005 five new student members, one honorary member, and one faculty member of the Upsilon II Chapter of the National Construction Honorary Society, Sigma Lambda Chi, were inducted. Congratulations to Mr. Tom Lavelle (honorary member), Dr. Dong-Eun Lee (faculty member), and students members Mr. Aaron Stupec, Mr. Scott Patterson, Mr. Nathan Cook, Mr. Nathan Knackstedt, and Mr. Matt Lambert.
Year 2004-05 Activities
November 9, 2004 four new members of the Upsilon II Chapter of the National Construction Honorary Society, Sigma Lambda Chi, were inducted. Congratulations to Guy Aman, Seth Henry, Brandon Steiner, and John Clark.
