ILLINOIS TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH CENTER

The Illinois Transportation Research Center is directed by an Executive Board comprised of Directors from each Division or Office in the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and a representative from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).  The Executive Board is chaired by the IDOT Director of Planning and Programming.  The Board provides overall policy direction, sets research priorities, and is responsible for the overall administration of the Center.  

The sponsoring universities participate in the operation of the Center through the Research Committee, whose members include one representative from each sponsoring university, two IDOT representatives, and one FHWA representative.  The Research Committee members act as liaisons with the Center, assist in distributing Requests for Proposal to researchers at their institutions, review and recommend proposals for funding, and conduct other business of the Center.  One of the sponsoring universities performs the administration of the Center under contract to IDOT.  Since its inception in 1991, the Center has been administered through the School of Engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), which was instrumental in developing the Memorandum of Understanding that led to the creation of the Center.

The program is currently co-administered by Dianne H. Kay, P.E. (dkay@siue.edu), Associate Professor, SIUE Department of Construction, and Steven J. Hanna, Ph.D., P.E.  (shanna@siue.edu), Emeritus Professor of Civil Engineering and former Associate Dean of the School of Engineering at SIUE.
