This section of the Pilot Assessment Project website provides streamlined access to online materials from the Project that should prove most directly useful to instructors, both to beginning graduate students and lecturers as well as to seasoned composition teachers looking for new ideas and materials.
For those instructors wishing to begin at the beginning, the
Composition Courses overview serves as a gateway to both basic program information and to detailed supporting materials:
Instructors new to composition at SIUE are strongly encouraged to read closely the Pilot Assessment Project Committee's
ENG 101 Goals and Objectives statement. This document provides detailed set of expectations for student achievenment, and should inform all classroom materials and practice. Additionally, this statement helps instructors more clearly identify the connection between composition pedagogy and the University's larger student goals. Of similar value and practicality are the
ENG 101 Extended Course Description and the
Instructional Sequence Branch Chart for ENG 101, which provides in flow-chart form one possible instructional model for use by SIUE composition faculty.
Similarly helpful for ENG 102, if slightly less detailed, is the
ENG 102 Extended Course Description.
Perhaps the most practical information this site provides is the collection of sample classroom materials: the
Course and Student Portfolio page provides a number of sample assignments and other classroom materials as well as sample student essays with instructor comment.
