June 19, 2008: Coast Salish Knowledge Preservation and
Songs
Indigenous American Groups of the Coast Salish region in western Washington
state continue to carry many ancient traditions of knowledge and practice. This
presentation will discuss some of the preservation efforts underway in local
communities and in institutions such as museums, archives, and universities,
as well as sharing some songs form the region.

July 10, 2008: Mr. History
Mr. History (Jason Stacy) offers an hour where you can share your memories
and he will "magically" demonstrate how your memories fit into the
history of the United States. Mr. History is no illusionist. His skill comes
entirely from having read far too many history books and from enjoying the past
more than the average person.

June 20, 2008: Birds of Illinois
Join Dr. Essner as he provides an introduction to the birds of Illinois.
His presentation will cover aspects of avian natural history, ecology, and conservation
biology. Dr. Essner will illustrate examples of the diversity of birds in Illinois
drawing on the museum collection in the Department of Biological Sciences at
SIUE.

July 18, 2008: China: Behind the Great Wall
The presenter's recent trips to China will inform this discussion of China.
Topics to be explored include Chinese international relations, economic growth,
environment and social conflict. Join us for what promises to be an engaging
yet alarming discussion.

August 15, 2008: Romania - East Europe and
the Communist Era: A Story of an Inside
Living under the communist regime as a national minority (Hungarian nationality
in the communist Romania), Dr. Szabo will tell a short story of her family's
life and communist regime under the communist dictatorship. Open "Question
& Answers" will give the audience the opportunity to receive response
to any particular questions they may have on the topic.
