HONORS AWARDS CONVOCATION – APRIL 15, 2007

The Meridian Ballroom was filled to capacity on Sunday, April 15, 2007, to celebrate the academic achievement of College of Arts and Sciences students.

Department of Music students provided entertainment for the CAS Honors Convocation. Musicians included Nathan Jacko at the piano, Bennett Wood on saxophone, and Nick Jost on bass.

Scholarship sponsor and alumnus Kathy Bowman (Bachelor of Music ‘81) gets acquainted with Lauren Dufford, first recipient of the newly created Bowmqn Award.

Professor Eugene Redmond of the Department of English Language and Literature served as the keynote speaker for the ceremony, entertaining the audience with his unique poetic style.  

Mrs. Florence Gillig celebrates with Theresa Ireland, recipient of the first Joanne Gillig-Kessler Award in Music, which was named in memory of Mrs. Gillig’s daughter.

Mrs. Corinne Hawkins shares a lighter moment with Tamara Hastings, recipient of the Robert B. Hawkins Graduate Award in Speech Communication.  The award is named in memory of Mrs. Hawkins husband, who was a member of the Speech Com faculty.

Mrs. Fredna Scroggins poses for a photo with Corey Kendrick, recipient of the Kenneth and Virginia Scroggins Memorial Jazz Scholarship.  The scholarship was created by the Scroggins’ sons in memory of their parents love of music.

Associate Dean Wendy Shaw enjoys time spent with Alumnus (M.S. City & Regional Planning ‘75) and award sponsor Robert Sager and Mrs. Marion Thompson, wife of the late Dr. Noble Thompson, a former Chair of the Department of Geography.
