It has been a very busy year for the College of Arts and Sciences. The “sleepy” campus of the early days at SIUE is no longer part of today’s fast-paced world. Keeping abreast of the academic and technological needs of 13,500 students means that we must continually innovate, update, and improve to offer the kind of excellence our students deserve. This year alone, everyone in the College worked overtime to:
- Provide 204,936 student credit hours of instruction,
- Offer counseling, advising, and instructional services,
- Develop strategic plans in all nineteen CAS departments,
- Coordinate CAS freshman seminars across disciplines
- Plan the expansion and renovation of the Science Building,
- Initiate a massive review of the general studies program,
- Prepare for accreditations in Theater & Dance and Social Work,
- Stay in touch with you, our alumni.
I know that your lives are equally busy with commitments to family, friends, and work. Finding a minute to take a deep breath, put up your feet, and relax is a luxury in the midst of frantic schedules, but it is something we all need in order to renew ourselves.
This issue of Arts & Sciences Today brings you the stories of CAS alumni who have devoted themselves to the fields of writing, music, and movies -- all great leisure activities to help you wind down. So take a minute to find out where life has taken some of your fellow SIUE graduates. Who knows? You might even feel a bit more relaxed by the time you finish.
