The Management & Marketing Department has fourteen full-time faculty members with diverse educational backgrounds, skills and experience in Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Marketing Research, Law, Economics, Operations Management, and Sociology. The faculty members combine academic expertise with business experience, current business research and consulting activities. This provides a valuable real-world perspective to enhance the academic experience of our students.
Dr. Robyn Berkley, Assistant Professor

Human Resources Management and Organizational Behavior
Robyn Berkley's research interests are in the area of diversity, discrimination, and sexual harassment. Her research has been published in scholarly journals such as the Employee Rights and Responsibility Journal, Academy of Management Learning and Education, and Journal of Small Business. She also serves on the editorial board for the Employee Rights and Responsibilities Journal.

Dr. Thomas J. Douglas, Assistant Professor

Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship
Tom Douglas joined the SIUE faculty in 2005. He teaches strategic management and entrepreneurship courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level. His research interests focus on identifying sources of competitive advantage, understanding the entrepreneurial process, and explaining the effect and evolution of quality improvement practices. Professor Douglas has published his research results in scholarly journals including the Academy of Management Journal, the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of Business Venturing, the Journal of Business Research, and Decision Sciences. In addition, he has extensive industry experience including twenty-five years with SBC Communications.

Dr. Ralph W. Giacobbe, Associate Professor and Chair

Consumer Behavior, Marketing Research, Marketing Strategy, Services Marketing
Ralph Giacobbe's research interest areas include marketing research, ethics, personal selling and marketing education and he has published in several journals including Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Marketing Education, Marketing Research, and Journal of Business Ethics. Professor Giacobbe has been a longstanding member of several professional societies including the American Marketing Association, the Academy of Marketing Science, and the Midwest Marketing Association.

Ann Gorman, Instructor

Sales and Policy Management, Principles of Marketing and Human Resource Management
Ann brings over 15 years experience in sales, marketing and channel management, most recently 12 years with NCR Corporation. She comes to SIUE with a varied background in business development, management of third-party relationships, contract negotiations and product training. Her most recent position was a Global Alliance Manager in NCR’s Teradata Division, where she managed relationships with multiple Technology Partners.She is also the Assistant Advisor for the SIUE Marketing Association.

Dr. Edmund Hershberger, Assistant Professor

Online Advertising, Consumer Behavior, Interactive Marketing, Event Marketing
Edmund Hershberger joined the faculty at SIUE in 2003. He has several years experience in marketing and operations and has been teaching marketing since 1999. Dr. Hershberger’s research interests include interactive marketing, internet advertising, online consumer behavior, traditional advertising, and event marketing. His teaching interests include Advertising, Marketing Research, Consumer Behavior and Electronic Marketing. His research has been published in scholarly journals such as the Journal of Advertising Research and the Quarterly Journal of Electronic Commerce. In addition Dr. Hershberger has presented his research at national conferences for the American Marketing Association and the Society for Marketing Advances.

Jenni Hunt, Instructor

Jenni Hunt comes to us with a background in Human Resources. She worked in HR at Boeing for a little over 2 years & prior to that, Jenni worked in HR at SimmonsCooper, LLC for approximately 2 years. She has a B.S from Illinois State University and a MBA from SIUE. She teaches Human Resource Management, Principles of Management and Organizational Behavior.

Dr. Janice R. W. Joplin, Associate Professor and Associate Dean
Ph.D., University of Texas at Arlington, 1993
Strategy and International Management
Janice Joplin has published articles on leadership, self-reliance, and work-family balance in the workplace in outlets including Journal of Vocational Behavior, Academy of Management Executive, and Journal of Organizational Behavior. An addition to conducting cross-cultural research on these topics, she teaches in the areas of strategic and international management at SIUE and has conducted international management seminars in Singapore, Hong Kong, and France.

Dr. Mary Sue Love, Assistant Professor

Mary Sue Love has been a member of the faculty at SIUE since 2001. She has several years of experience in the insurance industry, working in various positions for State Farm, Prudential, and Farmers Insurance Group. Her research interests are currently focused on work group interactions.

Dr. Ramana Madupalli , Assistant Professor

Marketing Research Methodologies, Database Marketing and Sales Management
Ram Madupalli's research interests include sales management, customer equity, call center management and marketing research. His teaching interests are personal selling and sales management, marketing research, database marketing and product management. Ram has presented papers at the AMA Marketing and Public Policy conference and Marketing Science conference. His research is published in Journal of Business Industrial Marketing (forthcoming). Ram’s credentials include best paper award at the 2003 Marketing Public Policy conference and recognition as AMA doctoral consortium candidate. His dissertation titled “Salesperson behavioral determinants of customer equity: an effectiveness approach” is a recipient of AMA dissertation award and Georgia State University dissertation grant. His primary teaching responsibilities in the MMR program covers marketing research methodologies, database marketing and sales management courses. He is the faculty advisor of the MMR Student Association (MMRSA).

Gertrude Pannirselvam's research interests include quality management, measurement of customer satisfaction and the role of supplier partnership and scheduling in meeting strategic business objectives. Her research has been published in scholarly journals such as the Journal of Operations Management and the International Journal of Quality and Reliability Management. She serves on the editorial review board for the Journal of Operations Management and the Quality Management Journal. She also serves on the editorial board for the International Journal of Integrated Supply Management.

Dr. Madhav Segal, Professor and

Madhav Segal is the Director of the Master of Marketing Research (MMR) program, which he founded in 1984. Dr. Segal serves as a Marketing Consultant to a variety of marketing, business, and marketing research service agencies and organizations. He has been an invited speaker on marketing and marketing research topics for many industry, academic associations and trade organizations both in the United States and abroad (including several countries in Europe, Asia, North & South America, Australia, and Africa).He is extensively published in leading marketing and marketing research journals such as Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Business Research, European Journal of marketing, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Data Collection, Industrial Marketing Management, California Management Review, Journal of Professional Services Marketing, Health Marketing Quarterly, Canadian Journal of marketing Research, International Journal of Retail and Distribution Management, Journal of Business Ethics and Marketing Research: A Magazine of Management & Applications. Dr. Segal’s teaching and research credentials also include several awards for outstanding teaching and scholarly research. He is the recipient of the 1997 Paul Simon Teaching Research Award. This prestigious award recognizes his success in linking his excellence in teaching with his outstanding research. He has also received the 2000 Great Teacher Award at the university.

Don Strickland teaches organizational behavior. His business research interests include organizational culture and change, industry-university partnerships and organizational effectiveness measurement. He maintains an active management consulting practice with a number of national and international clients.

Laura Swanson's research interests include manufacturing strategy, technology strategy and the design of production planning and control systems. She has been successful in incorporating innovative practices into her courses with the support of university grants.

Dr. John M. Virgo, Emeritus Professor

External Environment of Business, International Business, Human Resource Management
John Virgo is Managing Editor of the Atlantic Economic Journal, Editor-in-Chief of International Advances in Economic Research, and also Executive Vice President of the Atlantic Economic Society. From 1983 to 1987 he was Chief Executive Officer of the International Health Economics and Management Institute. Comparative health care systems, health policy, and management are his specialties.  He has published three books on international and U.S. health care policy. In addition, he has six books and research monographs, and over 50 published articles and chapters in books.

Dr. George Watson, Associate Professor

Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility
George W. Watson received his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech, his M.B.A. from California State at Fullerton, an M.S. in Systems Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, an a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Washington, Seattle. His teaching focus is on corporate social responsibility and ethics. Dr. Watson’s current research interests include ethical decision making, moral judgments and ideology. He has published in Business Ethics Quarterly, Business and Society, and the Journal of Business Ethics. He lives with his wife Tracey and their three children in Maryville, Illinois.
