| International
Collegiate Business Strategy Competition:
An undergraduate team from the School of
Business is entered in the International Collegiate Business Policy
Competition each year. The competition is based on a simulation
of companies competing in an international market. The student team
takes the role of strategic managers for one of the companies. This
role provides the students an opportunity to integrate and apply
the theories from the various business courses to making strategic
and operational decisions in the different functions of business.
In addition to making overall management decisions, the student
team prepares a strategic plan, an annual report, goal attainment
reports, and delivers oral presentations to the Board of Directors
of the company. All of this helps achieve realism, especially since
the members of the Board of Directors are real executives from around
the country. The international aspect of business education is included
in the competition in two ways. First, the simulation itself includes
producing and marketing in two countries. Second, the competition
includes teams from schools in the Netherlands, Mexico, Canada,
and Australia in addition to teams from the United States. The SIUE
team has won several trophies for performance in recent competitions.
Dr. Joseph Michlitsch, the faculty advisor for the SIUE team, selects
team members and guides them through the decision making process.
For more information about the competition and how you can be part
of a future SIUE team, please contact Dr.
