Dr. Levin joined the faculty in 1972. Since that time, he has been
a visiting professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
and in 1978 he spent a sabbatical leave at Data Resources in Washington,
D.C. Dr. Levin has also been a Commissioner on the Illinois Commerce
Commission and a consultant to the Federal Trade Commission. He
has received grants from the Council on Economic Regulation and
from the National Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Levin has been an expert witness in public utility regulatory
cases before state and federal regulatory bodies, and he has testified
in anti-trust cases both in the U.S. and in other countries. He
has made numerous presentations before business, public and professional
groups on utility regulation and telecommunications and regularly
participates in international conferences on telecommunications.
Professor Levin regularly consults for major telephone companies
in the U.S. and abroad. He has also been a consultant to public
agencies including the City of Chicago, the Maryland Office of Public
Council, the Delaware Public Service Commission, the Pennsylvania
Office of Small Business Advocate and the state of Victoria in Australia.
Dr. Levin has published articles in The Review of Economic
and Statistics, Telecommunications Policy, Review of Industrial
Organization, Journal of Energy Law and Policy, Southern Economic
Journal, Review of Business and Economic Research, and the
International Review of Economics and Business. He has
edited two books and has written chapters in others. His current
research interests are "Cost and Pricing Issues in Telecommunications",
"Electric Utility and Telecommunication Deregulation and Competition,"
and "Cable Television Pricing and Regulation."
