Thank you for your inquiry about our graduate program.  The particulars summarized below may be of interest to you.  The Department of Biological Sciences currently offers programs leading to:

The Master’s of Arts degree (foreign language necessary)

The Master’s of Science degree (with either thesis or non-thesis tracks)

The Master’s of Science in Biology Education (in cooperation with the School of Education)

The Master’s of Science in Biotechnology Management (a PSM – Professional Science Master’s degree)

You must first apply for admission to the SIUE Graduate School.  Upon receiving the application included in this packet (or you can apply online at http://www.siue.edu/GRADUATE/), the Graduate School will send materials (such as catalogs) which will answer many questions about course work and other requirements.  If your credentials satisfy the Graduate School’s general requirements for admission (see Graduate Catalog), they will be forwarded to the Department of Biological Sciences.

The Department of Biological Sciences requirements include submission of GRE scores, 2 letters (minimum) of recommendation, and a statement of your goals.  You must also be accepted by a faculty mentor, unless you are applying to the PSM program*.  To find a faculty mentor, we recommend that prospective graduate students examine our web page (http://www.siue.edu/BIOLOGY/) to identify individuals with whom you share common interests.  Feel free to contact either individual professors or the Graduate Committee Chairperson by phone, letter, or email if you have questions or want to set a date for a visit.

If you are interested in a research or teaching assistantship, please fill out the TA/RA application included with this letter.  If you are not interested in an assistantship, please fill out the top portion and write “DECLINED” on the form.

After all of your materials have been received in the Department of Biological Sciences, the Biological Sciences Graduate Committee will review your file.  If approved, you will be notified of your acceptance into our graduate program.

We look forward to hearing from you.
