Northern Kentucky Downs SIU Edwardsville 5-0
         MIDLAND, MICH. - Fourth-seeded Northern Kentucky earned a 5-0 victory over No. 5 seed SIU Edwardsville in the opening match of the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Tournament Thursday morning (May 8).
         The first two rounds of the event are being hosted by Northwood University.
         NKU is now 18-4 on the season, while SIUE sees its year come to an end with a 14-9 mark.
         The Norse opened the tournament by posted a sweep in doubles to lead 3-0 heading into singles. Northern Kentucky then saw No. 2 singles player Stephanie Issacs earn a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory over Laura Horning to lead 4-0. No. 5 player Emily Okerson then clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sarah Rhein to clinch the victory.
         SIU Edwardsville did hold a lead in three of the four matches that were suspended when the team contest was decided.
         Northern Kentucky will now face the winner of the Northwood/West Virginia State match. The second round contest is Friday morning (May 9) at 10 a.m.
