April 24, 2008 Connors Named GLVC Freshman of the Year          EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's tennis standout Carli Connors (Belleville) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.          Connors, SIUE's No. 1 singles player, also was selected to the All-GLVC team. SIUE teammate Laura Horning (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) also courted all-GLVC honors.          SIUE, the No. 3 seed for Friday's GLVC Tournament in Indianapolis, enters the weekend with a nine-match winning streak. With a 13-7 record overall and a No. 5 ranking in the Great Lakes Region, the Cougars also appear to be NCAA Tournament-bound.          Connors has been the biggest winner of the season for the Cougars. She holds a 20-10 record overall and teamed with Horning at No. 1 doubles.          Horning is 17-10 overall and holds a 12-5 record as a No. 2 singles player for the Cougars.          Drury's Laure Piquemal was named the GLVC's Player of the Year.          SIUE's opening match at the GLVC Tournament is Southern Indiana. Match time is 8:30 a.m. ET at Whiteland High School.
