SIUE Women’s Tennis Feels Good After Indianapolis
After receiving a tough draw the young SIUE Women’s Tennis team played well in the Indianapolis Invitational Tournament.
“I was a little nervous when I saw the draw because we had a lot of matches versus Bellarmine and Indianapolis,” said SIUE women’s tennis coach Bryan Belt. Bellarmine and Indianapolis are historically two of the top teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Top SIUE players from the tournament included Kelsey Laird (Bloomington) who upset second-seeded Megan Farley of Indianapolis at No. 2 singles. Amanda Niebur (Edwardsville) also played well for the Cougars, said Belt. Niebur also defeated a No. 2 seed en route to finishing
Coming into the tournament without any expectations, Belt said he was pleasantly surprised.
“I was extremely pleased of how they held their own,” said Belt”
The Cougars face off next in a dual match against Kentucky Wesleyan Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
