March 12, 2007 SIUE Starts Outdoor Season 3-3 EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's tennis team started its outdoor season with six matches in Orlando, Fla. "The trip went well. We were a match away from going 5-1 in a few matches," said SIUE women's associate coach Kyler Updyke. SIUE finished with a 3-3 record while competing in Orlando. "Overall, everybody competed well," said Updyke. Marley Coghlan (Belleville) was the big standout of the trip with an undefeated record in both singles and doubles. Amanda Niebur (Edwardsville) also had a good week, notching a 5-1 singles record. SIUE will continue its outdoor season against Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky this week. The Cougars travel to Bellarmine Friday for a 1 p.m. match and to Northern Kentucky for a 9 a.m. match Saturday. "There is added emphasis because both of the teams are in our conference," said Updyke. Both matches, however, are non-conference events. Only matches in the GLVC West Division will count toward league standings. -siue cougars- |
