SIUE Women’s Tennis Stops NKU’s Streak
Coach Bill Logan and his Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women’s tennis team halted Northern Kentucky’s 51-match winning streak against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents.
SIUE defeated Northern Kentucky 6-3 in Highland Hts., Ky. The Cougars are now 3-1 overall after the victory at NKU and at Bellarmine. SIUE’s lone loss was a 6-3 drubbing by GLVC-leading Indianapolis.
“I was very happy with the Northern Kentucky victory,” said Logan. “NKU is a tough team. They’re dangerous.”
Gina Wohltman (Effingham) leads the Cougars with a 3-0 singles record at No. 3. She also has joined No. 2 doubles player Keli Keener (Bethalto) for a 4-0 record.
“Gina has been a real surprise so far. I’ve been pleased with her play,” Logan said.
The Cougars have a busy week as they travel to Quincy for a Tuesday match with the Hawks. SIUE faces Kentucky Wesleyan in a 3 p.m. home match on Friday and currently undefeated Southern Indiana in a 9 a.m. match at home on Saturday.
