Women’s Tennis Nears End of Regular Season
With three consecutive home events, the SIUE women’s tennis team wraps up the regular-season schedule this weekend. The Cougars play Bellarmine at 4 p.m. on Friday and then play the University of Indianapolis at 9 a.m. and Northern Kentucky University at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
SIUE women’s tennis Coach Bill Logan said he believes this weekend will be a difficult and important one for the team. Northern Kentucky and Indianapolis are strong teams and will give the Cougars strong competition.
The Cougars, 5-1, suffered a disappointing loss last weekend. SIUE lost to Southern Indiana 6-3 on Friday. They turned things around and overpowered Kentucky Wesleyan 9-0 on Saturday.
Logan said he plans on correcting the mistakes from last week. “The mistakes made the difference. This time my team must be ready mentally and physically.”
Logan said the women were very upset after the loss. “We need to take it in stride and use it as a wake up call.”
Despite the loss, the Cougars still have two doubles teams that are undefeated, as is Laura Zeeb (Greenville). Zeeb has been splitting time playing No. 2 and No. 3 singles.
