Women’s Tennis Opens
Season With Split
The SIUE women’s tennis team returns home after splitting its
matches last week to begin the 2000 season.
The Cougars, 1-1 overall and in the Great Lakes Valley Conference,
face IUPU-Ft. Wayne and Indianapolis on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.,
respectively. The matches will be played at either Sunset Hills Country
Club or Edwardsville High School.
“We are preparing for two tough matches on the same day,” said
Coach Bill Logan. “Indianapolis is one of the better teams in the
conference and IPFW defeated us in the regular season last year.”
Amber Stanley (Effingham), Keli Keener (Bethalto) and Gretchen
DeLaney (Grafton) each went 1-1 on the weekend as singles players,
recording wins over Bellarmine. SIUE defeated Bellarmine 5-1 before being
shutout 9-0 by Northern Kentucky.
