Deserea Brown

May 13, 2008 GLVC Announces Women's Track & Field Honors; SIUE'S Brown Top Athlete           INDIANAPOLIS - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Deserea Brown, a junior sprinter from Flossmoor, Illinois, is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Brown helped lead SIU Edwardsville to the school's fourth consecutive GLVC Outdoor Track & Field title.           She posted 42 points for the Cougars at the GLVC Track & Field Championships on May 2-3. Brown won the heptathlon, 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles at the meet.           Teammate Valery Taylor and Missouri S&T's Leah Morehead have been named Co-Freshman of the Year. Taylor won the women's long jump and placed sixth in the 800-meter run. Morehead claimed the women's pole vault by clearing a height of 3.56 meters.           SIU Edwardsville head coach David Astrauskas, in addition, has been named the 2008 Coach of the Year. It is his second consecutive Coach of the Year honor for Women's Outdoor Track & Field.
