February 28, 2008 Three Cougars Provisionally Qualify for NCAA Championships EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's track team members Christine Butler (Matteson), Shelinda Brackett (St. Louis, Mo.), and Jennie Satterlee (Staunton) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with their performances this weekend at the Eastern Illinois Friday Night Special. Showing her All-American poise, Butler turned clutch performances in the long and triple jump. With a long jump of 5.70 meters (18 feet, 8.50 inches), Butler took second place. For the triple jump, took home first-place honors with here jump of 11.96 meters (39-3). "Christine has some clutch performances this past weekend. Coming in, she needed some big jumps in order to provisionally qualify for NCAAs. She stepped up and performed," said SIUE Coach David Astrauskas. In the 200-meter dash, SIUE newcomer Shelinda Brackett edged out the competition to take home first place for her NCAA provisionally qualifying time of 25.09. Just barely making it, Jennie Satterlee also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with her throw of 15.86 meters in the 20-pound weight throw. The provisional qualifying mark is 15.86 meters. SIUE heads to Crawfordsville, Ind., Saturday for the 2008 Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Events will be held at Knowling Fieldhouse at Wabash College. -siue cougars- |
