SIUE’s Brown, UIndy’s Kuzmicz Selected as Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week
          INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Deserea Brown (Flossmoor, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and the University of Indianapolis’ Courtney Kuzmicz (Frankfort, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
          Brown, a junior sprinter for the Cougars, posted two NCAA Division II provisional qualifying times at the Blue Classic hosted by Illinois College over the weekend.
          She won the 200-meter dash with a provisional time of 25.35 seconds and earned second-place in the 55-meter dash with a provisional time of 7.23 seconds. In addition, Brown also took home first-place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.31 seconds.
          Brown has posted NCAA Division II provisional qualifying times in the 55-meter dash, 55-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash this year. She also holds the top time in the all four events among GLVC athletes.
          SIUE will next head to the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa this weekend.
          Kuzmicz, a sophomore for the Greyhounds, excelled at the Wabash Open over the weekend.
          She claimed second-place in the 20-pound weight throw and notched a NCAA Division II Indoor Championship provisional mark of 15.94 meters.
         
          The mark is the top effort in the GLVC this season.
          Kuzmicz also had a strong showing in the shot put at the Wabash Open, finishing fourth with a throw of 12.08 meters. The mark eclipsed the meet record of 11.78 meters she had previously set in 2007.
          UIndy will return to action at the Hoosier Hills Open in Bloomington and the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational this weekend.
          Other top performers in the GLVC last week included SIU Edwardsville’s Jenny Palovcsik and UIndy’s Nichelle Curtis.
