Complete GLVC Championships Results

SIUE Women's Track Wins GLVC Title
        Southern Illinois University Edwardsville won its third straight Great Lakes Valley Conference outdoor track and field title this past Saturday at Korte Stadium.
        The Cougars scored 280 points, 80 more than second-place Indianapolis. It is the most points ever scored by a team at the conference championships.
        Deserea Brown (Flossmoor) was named the Female Athlete of the Year after winning the heptathlon and the 400-meter hurldes. The Cougar sophomore competed in the seven heptathlon events as well as seven individual and relay races.
        "She will be a threat for us at the national meet. Deserea is now fifth on the NCAA Division II championships list in the heptathlon after scoring a school-record 4,808 points.
        Callie Glover (Bartlett) won the hammer throw and finished in the top four in two other events. "She was a big contributor in the field events for us," said Astrauskas.
        Valerie Simmons (St. Louis) won the 100-meter hurdles and was the runner-up to Christine Butler (Matteson) in the triple jump.
        Other winners at the GLVC Championship include Tairisha Sawyer (Chicago) at 200 meters, Lindsey DeFevers (Virden) in the discus, and Juliet Alrich (Carpentersville) at 400 meters.
