Cougars Head To Indiana
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams travels to Bloomington, Ind., for the Hoosier Relays this weekend.
“This weekend we will have a full squad at Indiana which will be a very competitive meet,” said SIUE men's track and field coach Dave Astrauskas. “I think our kids are up for the challenge.”
Several Cougars competed at the Illinois College Early Bird this past weekend.
“We only took a partial squad to Illinois College,” said Astrauskas. “The rest of the team got a little more training in, which will definitely help us out later in the season.”
On the women’s side, Lindsey DeFevers (Virden) set a new school record in the weight throw with a toss of 55 feet, 8.25 inches (16.97 meters).
“Lindsey had an outstanding weight throw this weekend,” said Astrauskas. “She is working hard in all aspects of her training. I’m happy to see it pay off for her.”
Holly Noller (Pawnee) provisionally qualified for nationals in the weight throw with her toss of 52 feet, 3.50 inches (15.94 meters). Noller also qualified in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 9.75 inches (13.66) meters.
“Holly had one of the best meets of her career,” said Astrauskas. “She qualified for nationals in two events in the same meet. That is very impressive. She has had some good practices lately and I expect her marks to climb throughout the season.”
For the men, Anthony Weber (Marengo) set a new school record in the pole vault with a mark of 16 feet, 1 inch (4.9 meters).
“Anthony’s jump should get him into the national meet which was one of our goals this season,” said Astrauskas. “He looked real good this week and just missed clearing 16-6."
