June 24, 2004 Ewersmann Named Academic All-America Southern Illinois University Edwardsville runner Maria Ewersmann (St. Paul, Mo.) has been named a third team Academic All-America in the college division of women's track/cross country. Ewersmann became eligible for the honor after being named first team All-District earlier this month. All first team All-District athletes were placed on the national ballot, possibly to become an Academic All-America by the vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). A speech pathology major at SIUE, Ewersmann holds a 4.000 grade point average and was SIUE’s top performer in both the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run during the outdoor track and field season. She placed fifth at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships at 10,000 meters. She also helped the cross country Cougars to a runner-up finish at the GLVC Championships. -siue cougars- |
