Thomas Advances to Hurdles Final
BOSTON - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville freshman Jamie Thomas (Blue Island) advanced to Saturday's 60-meter hurdles final at the NCAA Division II Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Thomas qualified with the eighth-fastest time of 8.88 seconds. It was a season-best for the Cougar who will be extra busy on Saturday. Thomas competes in the triple jump at 3:15 p.m. and also will take on her fellow finalists in the hurdles at 3:30 p.m.
SIUE's two other NCAA qualifiers were not as fortunate on Friday.
Freshman Callie Glover (Bartlett) placeed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 3 inches. The winning throw was 48-11 by Liga Klavina of Abilene Christian.
Tairisha Sawyer (Chicago) missed Saturday's 60-meter final after running the preliminary race in 7.86 seconds. It was Sawyer's fastest 60-meter time of the indoor season. Melissa Murillo, of St. Augustine, was the preliminary leader at 7.43 seconds.
