March 2, 2004 Four Cougars Qualify for Nationals Four SIU Edwardsville track and field athletes will represent the Cougars at the upcoming NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, to be held March 12-13 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston. Jamie Thomas (Blue Island) will enter both the 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump. Thomas holds the seventh fasted 60-meter hurdle time in the country, 8.78 seconds. She is 13th in the nation in the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet, 6.75 inches. Tairisha Sawyer (Chicago) qualified for the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.72, which is tied for 12th best in the country. Callie Glover (Bartlett) qualified for the national meet thanks to her performance in last week's Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships. She earned All-GLVC honors in the event with a distance of 45-7, which ranks her 11th overall. Richard Skirball (Granite City) is the lone SIUE qualifier on the men's side, making his second-consecutive appearance in the championships. He will enter the 800-meter run with an 11th-ranked time of 1:52.88. -siue cougars- |
