COMPLETE RESULTS
SIUE Women Place Third at GLVC Championships
Powered by three wins in the field events and a champion at 400 meters, including a double-win for Kathy Ostrander, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's track team placed third at the 2002 Great Lakes Valley Conference Track and Field Championships in Rensselaer, Ind.
Ostrander won the discus with a throw of 41.06 meters and the hammer throw with a toss of 41.78 meters.
Kathleen Wilson won the javelin with a throw of 36.60 meters while Ostrander placed third in the event.
Tamekia Howard was SIUE's other champion. She blew away the field at 400 meters in a time of 55.98 seconds, nearly a second better than her nearest competitor.
The top two in each event and the winning relays are named All-Great Lakes Valley Conference. SIUE also had All-Conference performances from Breanne Steffens at 800 meters, Amanda Bozue at 3,000 meters, Carrie Carducci in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Sarah Turpin in the pole vault and Desiree Barcomb in the long jump.
Ostrander also placed second in the shot put and scored 34 of SIUE's 175 points.
Lewis won the meet with 217 points, edging Indianapolis with 216.
