Track Eager for GLVC meet
The Cougar track teams travel to Romeoville, Ill., for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships this weekend.
Coach Darryl Frerker said he is looking for some individual success for the women’s team.
“On the ladies side, I am hoping to come away with a conference champion. I am focusing on individuals since our numbers are down on the women’s side.”
On the men’s side, Frerker looks for a higher team finish.
“I expect the guys to improve on their fourth place finish at the indoor conference meet. Hopefully, we can come out with some conference champions and a few national qualifiers.”
Last weekend, SIUE played host for the Cougar Classic.
“It was a great weekend for a meet. If you get nice weather, you will get good performances”
Daniel Walden (Springfield) continued to inch closer to the national qualifying mark. Walden ran the 800-meter in a time of one minute, 53.26 seconds, missing the qualifying time by 0.66 seconds (1:52.60).
Bill Wolfe (Carpentersville) broke the school record in the pole vault last weekend with a leap of 14 feet. Wolfe finished first in the event.
