SIUE's Valenti Named All-American by NSCAA
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Elizabeth Valenti (Overland Park, Kan.) has been selected second team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Already selected with teammate Kelly Limpert as an All-American by Daktronics as voted on by sports information directors nationwide, Valenti also was selected for national award by the coaches. The junior midfielder led SIUE to the NCAA Tournament.
Valenti tied for the team lead in scoring with nine goals and five assists. She finished second in shots with 37. She was named the GLVC's Player of the Week on Oct. 8 when she scored a natural hat trick in a victory over NCAA Tournament-bound Quincy.
"Elizabeth is a good student, a good soccer player and a good person. I'm very pleased that she has received this honor," said SIUE coach Lynda Bowers.
Valenti helped the Cougars to 13-5-1 record this season as well as a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships.
This was SIUE's final season of NCAA Division II competition. The Cougars will be continuing the transition to NCAA Division I play in the 2008 season and will begin playing against Division I competition.
